| The Ozark Log Home Supply Story |
Bryan Olmsted |
Incorporated in September of 1997 by Bryan Olmsted a local building contractor and the late Dr. Bruce M. Smith local dentist and entrepreneur, Southern Missouri Contractor’s Supply Co., Inc. was the genesis for the company that is now Ozark Log Home Supply, Inc.
With a mission to provide contractors in West Plains and surrounding areas with an alternative to traveling to Springfield and larger cities to find the specialty construction products not locally available. SMCS opened it’s doors in February 1998 in a leased building at 913 Porter Wagoner Blvd. in West Plains, with Bryan’s brother Brad as manager. Serving a client base in south central Missouri and north central Arkansas the business grew to provide a much needed source for concrete, carpentry and power tools, specialty fasteners and related construction supplies.
Then during the construction of what would be his first log home, Brad found there was not an outlet locally where log home stains, sealants, fasteners and related products could be purchased.

After discussing the issue with Bruce and Bryan, the decision was made to pursue a distributorship for Sashco Log Home Products a leading manufacturer of log home products, based in Brighton, Colorado near Denver. Following a meeting in 1998 with Paul Peebles, then Sashco's Southeast Sale Representative and Debbie Basset, Marketing Director for Sashco, SMCS was fortunate enough to be awarded a distribution territory including Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Western Tennessee, and Louisiana. A branch division of the company was formed, and Ozark Log Home Supply began stocking and marketing Sashco Log Home Products to the midwest and beyond in mid-1998 using it's newly developed e-commerce web site.
Working with a network of factory distribution facilities throughout the U.S., Ozark Log Home Supply can ship your order from a substantial inventory of the best log home building and maintenance supplies anywhere. Assuring that consumers nationwide receive timely shipments of log home products no matter where they live, with most orders being shipped same or next business day from one of three distribution points in Colorado, Missouri or Tennessee.
In 1999, Ozark Log Home Supply again decided to expand it’s offering, by adding a log furniture and railing manufacturing division, as well as rustic log home, cabin and lodge decor to it’s list of products and services. Clients could now select from stock furniture designs or work with our staff to develop the custom furnishings and accents needed to fit their individual lifestyle. Working with locally available eastern red cedar an extensive selection of rustic furnishings, featuring hand and water peeled designs, as well as half log stairs, and cedar log railings, and furnishings could now be offered through their web site and at the retail location. With years of design experience, the OLHS staff will be glad to work with you to outfit your log or rustic home with the furnishings and decor to fit your lifestyle.

In February of 2001, Bryan and his wife Sherry purchased Dr. Smith’s interests in the business and continued to expand on the Bruce and Bryan’s shared goal of providing needed goods and services to local and national consumers. Sadly, only a couple of months after this transition in ownership, we lost our friend, mentor and co-founder, when Dr. Bruce Smith passed away. As local newspaper editor Frank L. Martin stated in an editorial following his passing “Bruce Smith rarely looked behind, for he always looked ahead.” and so, as Bruce would have wanted us to do, we continue to move forward, “looking over that next ridge” and to what lies on the other side.
In May of 2001, feeling the pinch of an expanding inventory and service offering within a leased building the decision was made to purchase a new facility located at 1621 Porter Wagoner Blvd. just up the road from the original location. After extensive renovations the business was relocated in August of 2001. Since the relocation the addition of an expanded inventory of rustic home decor items have improved our ability to serve the needs of log home owners and builders. In 2003 Sashco extended our named distribution territory to include Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

Using the internet, trade shows and other advertising media Ozark Log Home Supply had grown to the point, that at the end of 2004 the decision was made to closeout the original contractor’s supply portion of the business and concentrate on supplying only log home related products and services. With a staff that is extremely knowledgeable in regard to building and maintaining log structures and drawing from years of log home, ownership, construction experience and factory training we look forward to serving the needs of our clients for years to come.
Being a small family owned and operated company allows complete quality control in all of the furniture products we make. Sherry and Bryan, along with other family members actually create all of the furniture pieces from start to finish. Harvesting locally grown cedar and other woods in Ozark County, on a farm that has been in Sherry’s family for generations. Bryan, Sherry, with kids Travis and Brandy, and brother Brad Olmsted take pride in creating and marketing the products and furniture we sell.

You can be assured that we know every inch of wood that goes into your bed or dresser, because we cut the log that had the unusual twist or form, we washed and sanded the bark off, we picked the posts with the knots that added to the character or because of the unique color in the piece. We turned the tenons and drilled the holes for the rails or pickets, sprayed three coats of finish on the surface, and wrapped it for shipping. You can also be assured that we will always strive to provide the best products and services in an honest and ethical manner. We are always on the lookout for new and exciting products and services to provide you, our customers, because we love what we do, and we want you to love it too.
As a small company, we strive to provide fast, reliable service, with a friendly "know our customer" attitude. We try to keep most of the products you need in stock or provide drop shipped products from distributors we know we can trust to achieve the level of service you deserve. And, although we aren't perfect, you can be sure that if we do make a mistake, we'll make every reasonable effort make it right.
In 2008 we were designated as one of only two Sashco Internet Dealers nationwide, in addition to being a Stocking Retail Dealer serving the mid-west region and beyond. |
